Chicharon

Chicharron is a dish generally consisting of fried pork belly or fried pork rinds; chicharron may also be made from chicken, mutton, or beef. It is a well-loved snack that can be bought anywhere. But there is this one place I want to eat and buy chicharon.

The best chicharon in Cebu is found in Carcar, Cebu. It is located in the south and you can see all the different stalls that sells chicharon. The one store we always buy chicharon is the store called Mat-Mat.

In both sides of Mat-Mat, there are other stalls that claimed to be the original chicharon in Carcar. "Luis Original Special Crispy Chicharon", "Mat-Mat The Original Carcar Chicharon", and "The Original Carcar BAR DIN Crispy Chicharon Since 1950's." So in other owrds, Mat-Mat is in between two stalls that claim to be the original chicharon of carcar, which is to me Mat-Mat.

Carcar is not only known form their cholesterol loading chicharon, but they are also known for their ampao(sweetened rice crispies).

What I love about Mat-Mat's chicharon is that it is freshly cooked and you can see a mountain of freshly cooked pork rind. Thinking of it, it makes my mouth water and my stomach make a funny noise.

You could take just one bite then the next thing you know, you'd be eating a whole pack or two! The pork rinds were well-seasoned and cooked to make a perfect crackling brown chicharon. You can also just order a pack of just the skin inside, that's what makes me make Mat-Mat my favorite!

So if you are able to pass through Carcar, don't forget to get a few packs of Chicharon and Ampao to make you feel full throughout the entire road trip!
